Changing slowly, robustly facing up to the challenges and seeing companies established and value-added products more and more being locally designed increases my pride in the Tees Valley.

I recently visited Cleveland Biotech Ltd, located on the Preston Farm Industrial Estate, meeting a highly-skilled and qualified staff. This innovative local company services commerce, the service sector and industries both nationwide and across the world. Added to this, the product they use is vital to all in two important ways: it prevents problems keeping drains clean and free-flowing using a product that acts in an absolutely environmentally-friendly way, whilst being cheap and simple to install and use.

By chance I met the Managing Director of Main-Tel. This company is based and administered in Thornaby by local men and women. My delight and pride was engaged when during a briefing I realised that the telecommunciations accounts of many well-known Oxford Street (London) and designer stores, in addition to those of Government departments and blue-chip companies, are organised in one of my small towns. Gems that more and more grow locally.

Of course, companies that are well established and creatively designing new products with a workforce that put in 110% effort need to be included. Again in Thornaby, K Home Engineering - now K Home International - delivers a product from highly-skilled engineers that is now acclaimed around the world. I feel enormous pride that this company - a world beater - is located in my constituency.

Stockton Tees Valley is producing highly technical instrumentation to tea of all sorts and tastes – with much in between; changing the industrial face from empty space where once heavy engineering companies were based to a diverse selection of commerce, service and manufacturing concerns. This all proves that the people of the Tees have ability and talent in abundance, making them a resourceful and flexible workforce able in the right economic environment to face problems and grow new enterprises. This makes me, and I believe all people, very proud.
